Zack WoodsEnglish One, Period ThreeMrs. Dean1, December 2017PHONES AT SCHOOLThere was a kid named Ryan, and he saw an intruder. He didn’t have a cell phone, so he had to get help. By the time he was able to get help, the intruder had got in.
What would have happened if the kid would have had a phone? There are both sides to this one allowing phones in school or not allowing phones in class. There are many sides to this you got the student’s side and the teachers and parents side. Not allowing phones in school. There are many different opinions and phones allowed in school would be a good idea, but most parents or teachers may think otherwise, phones being allowed in school would be a great idea because it would teach students responsibility. Allowing phones in school has advantages and disadvantages.
Many teachers and parents have their opinions on allowing or disallowing phones at school, but many students feel the same. If phones were allowed in school, it would give students advantages, but they would also have to gain their trust. Phones should be allowed in school because “a cell phone can teach your child responsibility” which would help your child in the rest of their life.
(Weller, Web). Getting your child a cell phone can have very many things to it with them having a phone it can teach them responsibility as stated above. The reason for this is because they will need to know when to use it and when to keep it put up. Cell phones can keep students up to their work cause they can set reminders to do their Homework or unfinished class work they need to do. Phones should be allowed in school because “Cell phones can be used as reminders” this will let all students get their work done at home and not use the excuse “I forgot.” (Ramey, Web). Cell phones can be used for good not only bad as they can make sure students get their work done and or homework done at home.
Needing to know something fast phones would be a good thing for your student to have because ¨Access to the Internet provides for instant answers for the curious.¨ This will let you’re student or child find out an answer quick which will cause less question and let them find them without having a million questions. (Concordia, Web). Students having access to the internet will help the teacher be able to answer questions to those who are not understanding it at all instead of having just a simple question or two. As Well as above getting your kid ready for the real world is something good for them. Having a phone is a good thing for your kid or student because “In preparation for a real-world job” which will let them get used to not being on the phone during school which will teach them not to do it during their job. (Station, Web) Phones can keep your child safe it will let them have an emergency contact to call someone if they need help.
Having a phone is a good thing not only because you wanna know your kid is safe but to call for help because “Since cell phones are light and easy to carry, they can act as emergency contact tools for students.” This will let your child contact you in case of an emergency. (Ramey, Web). There are many different opinions and phones allowed in school would be a good idea, but most parents or teachers may think otherwise, phones being allowed in school would be a great idea because it would teach students responsibility. Not allowing phones in school has its advantages and disadvantages.
If the school decided not to let phones in school tons of kids would always complain and get on teacher’s nerves. Some students might just use their phones for other things to talk to friends or use it for bad. Not allowing phones in school would be a good idea because “With the temptation of social media and texting in their hands, students may focus solely on their social life instead of the lesson plan.” this will eventually get on the teacher’s nerves of them not listening to him/her. (Concordia, Web).
But they could go for certain students constantly using their phone for the wrong could make them put their phone in a basket and get it at the end of the hour. Schools can block as much stuff out they can, but they still have ways around it which is a bad thing with today’s technology. Students can use “mobile data” to bypass the school’s limits. Not allowing phones in school would be a good idea because “While schools can limit the availability of websites that can be viewed on their network, students may find links that slipped through the system. There will also be times that students will not be accessing the Internet through a monitored network.” this is a bad thing because certain sites or apps the school blocks students will go out of their way to bypass this. But schools could limit the access students have on their phone by having teachers watch students by making sure they don’t bypass the system which if they try it could lead to serious issues. Students now of days like to cheat on tests so phones wouldn’t be a good idea to have as they could lead to cheating on exams.
This would be a good idea not to have phones in school because “Since student X was watching videos during classroom hours when it comes to exam time, they will resort to cheating” which would be bad for the teacher. But teachers at the beginning of the hour could collect all phones and return them at the end of the hour. Anyone who was to try and sneak their phone by could get in trouble for cheating. Teachers already have enough problems in the classroom with students they don’t need anything else. Not allowing phones in school would be a good idea because “teachers don’t need more distractions in the classroom” teachers don’t like any distraction as then it gets the whole class off topic and out of control.
Teachers can stop the distraction by sending people out who use their phones for an immature mater. This will prevent a lot of the problem because it will scare other students not to use their cellphone unless for a good reason. There are many different opinions and phones allowed in school would be a good idea, but most parents or teachers may think otherwise, phones being allowed in school would be a great idea because it would teach students responsibility.
Phones in school have very many opinions on if they should or shouldn’t be allowed in school. In my opinion, they should be allowed as they will be able to get in touch with their parents in case of emergencies and able to get help in some instances. This will help us students get ready for college and our future in life which is needed as we can’t go to a job being immature. There are many different opinions and phones allowed in school would be a good idea, but most parents or teachers may think otherwise, phones being allowed in school would be a great idea because it would teach students responsibility.Works Cited”Pros and Cons of Allowing Digital Devices in the Classroom.” Concordia UniversityPortland, 7 Nov.
