Work Specialization General The meaning of Work Specialization is that breaking down large jobs into smaller components, and delegating different parts to individual workers, so sometimes it can also be called Division of labor. That refers to the degree to which an organization divides individual tasks into separate jobs. It allows a manager to take complex tasks and break them down into smaller, more precise tasks that individual workers can complete. For example, in a bakery that uses batch production , one semi skilled individual prepares the dough, the other cuts the dough into pieces followed by a worker who prepares the bread or cake and the other who decorates it and still others that deliver the cake. The same workers do the same task for each batch of bread cake or other desserts. Therefore, it’s the same to Samsung and Sony, they have a very professional design, production and marketable pipeline. Some of the employees will be working on designing for example of the smartphones; some will be working on testing the devices to check that whether the product is complete and others will prepare the product to sale. As the company grows, the tasks assigned to employees will be more complex. Samsung The functional departmentalization of Samsung Electronics is done into four key areas of digital marketing, telecommunications, home appliances and semiconductors. This departmentalization is done inside the organization and calls for in depth specialization in every field with orientations, skills and coordination among the divisions.This functional departmentalization can also be seen from the in the view of product departmentalization in which employees function in different projects and groups targeting the type, nature and requirements of the products and the consumer base regarding the same. This kind of departmentalization in Samsung makes the product line close to the customers and hence is successful in making the organization as the world’s leader. However, there may be other types of departmentalization but Samsung Electronics have a centralized structure which limits to these models only. Sony In order to strengthen medium- and long-term growth strategy, further support its core businesses and focus on product development and product quality. And the new Sony architecture has been initially formed, electronics, games and entertainment three blocks, the electronics sector is divided into AV/ IT, semiconductor/ components, technology development in three parts. AV/ IT: (Video Business, Digital Video Business, Audio Business, Connect Business and VAIO Computer Business ). Semiconductor/ components: Sony is far behind its competitors such as Samsung Electronics in the core components of semiconductors, flash memory technology and liquid crystal displays, leading to its relatively passive position in the field of flatpanel TVs, Sony will draw the current performance of the most good person in charge of digital products to dominate Technology Development: in the latest strategic readjustment, research and development and all new business functions will be centralized at Sony headquarters, led directly by the president of the company, and Kiichima Shimada
