Developments in artificial intelligence have greatly
influenced the manufacturing systems. The advancing manufacturing and computer
technology alongside has brought about new challenges to product designers,
processes systems and managers alike. The traditional design and management
tools can not effectively cope with the problems arising in modern
manufacturing systems. Along with the integration of various elements of a
manufacturing system, communication has become an important issue. To ensure
proper functioning of all the elements in an integrated manufacturing system,
there must be a proper communication between/among them. In recent years, two
communication protocols, namely, manufacturing automation protocol and
technical and office protocol have emerged as a standard approach to enable
easy and effective communication between/among the elements of a system. Researchers
and engineers are constantly developing intelligent systems ranging from
applications in machining and assembly to long-term planning. Although the
application of artificial intelligent manufacturing systems in Pakistan is in
its infancy but its future growth can not be denied in this part of the world.


I’m Zain Aslam
holding Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Ghulam Ishaq Khan
Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi, Pakistan
which trained me on the design, development, construction, testing, and
research relating to machines, tools, engines and thermal devices along with
several multidisciplinary areas. Besides major open-ended final year
research project, my undergrad degree included four mini projects addressing
real-world design and manufacturing problems providing me a strong ground in
quantitative, problem-solving, design, and communications skills. My undergrad
degree has not only given me a certain set of skills but also helped me
understand my fields of interest and my academic strengths and weaknesses. This
understanding has made me realize that my strengths lie in managerial aspects
of industrial and technological systems, and this is the reason I am applying
to Master’s program in Mgt of Tech, abroad. My interest in the management of
technology has been substantiated by my undergraduate course module “Operations
Management” which strengthened my understanding of and proficiency in the
principles and concepts of modern production and operations management
applicable to world class manufacturing and service environments. In IT, I am
well versed with the application of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, C++,
PTC Creo, Solid Works and CNC Coding, ANSYS, XFLR5, XFOIL, Stress and Fluid
Simulations, MATLAB, and EES. The technical and soft skills that I have so far
learnt will greatly benefit me in future academic/professional endeavors.


I tempt to study at Oxford,
given its non-analogous manifested stature. The proposed program certainly
addresses my needs in terms of quality; the curriculum offered is in accordance
with my learning goals. During DPhil research phase, I’ll prefer designing and developing
an intelligent robotic system using bespoke software over off-the-shelf
software. I am confident that the proposed research will be useful in designing
components of a highly intelligent system according to desired specifications to
meet 100 percent business solutions/objectives. I am planning to pursue a
career in the field of autonomous intelligent systems so that I can freely
become a part of this very important quest of modernizing our lives. Since this
very career also explores the diversity when it comes to the nature of
practices in engineering, I am hoping to comprehend and acquire different
techniques employed using different fields. I believe that this will not just
work in improving our living standards but will also make sure that there is a legacy
that will be expected by the future generation. 


I have preferred studying abroad as foreign education helps
increase self-confidence, independence, self-sufficiency, patience,
adaptability, and cross-cultural communication skills. I am sure that the
eminent faculty at Oxford
will well prepare me for technical leadership roles by developing my
skills in the integration of engineering and technology, the flow of
information, new product development, new technology implementation, intelligence
and creativity, cross-cultural communication and team-spirit besides broadening
my international perspectives. Post DPhil, I would like to work with a research
and development team to contribute towards advancement of technology. The
proposed program will be a major step to span the gap between what I am and
what I want to be, i.e., a tech expert. My lifetime career goal, after seeking
real world experiences, is to immerse into academia as I believe I have an
obligation to give back to society I live in. I foresee playing a more
significant role in shaping lives through my innovative teaching which in turn
would assist to socio-economic well-being of the present and coming
generations. In all this process of reaching professional ambitions, Oxford will be the driving
factor as it will help turning my career around from local professional to a
global tech expert with virtually unlimited potential.
