Technology is advancing everyday and it has many benefits that are useful in any profession. With the use of advanced technology private institutions, universities, community colleges always look for ways to be more proficient, accurate and save money on education. Technology has been rapidly growing and still continues to impress the audience with new inventions in the tech world and distance education has been spreading all over the world. It is significant that we  recognize and understand  the benefits of distance education and technology. Technology is very effective way to learn from distance and better than our traditional face-to-face learning environment. Distance education is the future of online learning because it is superior than traditional learning.Distance education is very different from traditional education. Although both have many differences both have there own benefits and loss of a online class and traditional class. Distance education is perfect for people who have do not have a flexible schedule to continue learning. Distance education is also good for people who like and enjoy independent learning and everything according to their time. I have experienced both traditional face to face class learning and online learning. I personally found online classes better way of learning. The reason why I think traditional classes is not a best option is because much of my time got wasted due to travelling to college. Travelling to college the money I spent and wasting my time on travelling. Rather in online classes I could spend time getting ahead in assignments for the class. Also the layout of all traditional classes is not kept in mind to all students preference. Not every student can fit in the education system that the government or university has set for all students. I have noticed that even in a traditional class a student can not get that face to face interaction and communication that one can get in online learning. If a student is shy the traditional class will not help in one to one learning with the instructor because there are plenty of students in a college class. In this case online learning would be best option for this student who can communicate easily with the instructor and study in a way that is most comfortable to him. “Although emerging technologies offer a vast range of opportunities for promoting collaboration in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments, distance education programs around the globe face challenges that may limit or deter implementation of these technologies”  (Beldarrain). As Beldarrain states the modern technology has vastly grown into better and useful environment in which students can get a great education from. According to a research performed by Hara, a professor at a major US university. She experimented with new technology and student taking major classes in an online learning environment. Hara and the students noticed that they were facing some difficulties with communications and technical difficulty. Hara stated in the article that students were not quite comfortable with the learning because the atmosphere changed drastically. “Many advocates of computer-mediated distance education emphasize its positive aspects and understate the kinds of communicative and technical capabilities and work required by students and faculty” (Hara). Although Hara also states that these outcomes only occur if a student do their assignment last minute and many students try to turn in assignments at the same time. Then the system can crash Hara stated that always getting ahead and putting 100 percent effort will not lead to technology disasters and failed online learning. Almost every student can relate to this when they finish an a assignment the day it is due and lack of effort in the assignment will cause a major change in the scores. After these minor issues were solved the students saw a different aspect of online learning which was not stressful in fact relieving and a great source to learn from. In the studies of Hillman, he compared both traditional and online environments and the way students behave in both types of environment. He noticed that in a traditional lecture students are just expected to listen to the professor as a professional lecture. The atmosphere is strictly professional therefore students lose their curiosity and hesitate to ask questions related to the topic. Not only this affect the students learning but also is stop the students brain to think and be curious. Also when a professor asks all the students a question on lecture most likely a student will answer in the first second. While the rest do not stand a chance to answer that quickly this leads to lack of participation and less involvement in the class. In a traditional classroom environment the professor has to move on with the lecture. The students do not get a one to one connection with the professor because in a college lecture the class ratio is usually 60 students to 1 professor. This ratio has a huge number of students and only one professor so students will not get personal attention on specific things that they struggle or need extra help in. “This article presents the concept of learner?interface interaction and recommends instructional design strategies that will facilitate students acquisition of the skills needed to participate effectively in the electronic classroom”(Hillman). In the other hand, Hillman noticed that online classes allowed students to be themselves and be comfortable in a environment that they enjoy to study in. Hillman mentioned that for students to participate in lectures they must come up with creative and unique ideas that can help the students learn in a better and effective way. In our example our college uses electronic grading system which is called canvas. Canvas has many features that are helpful for students such as email which students can use to get in touch with the professor. Cerritos college canvas also has a chat room that students use frequently to ask questions this is a tool that many students use to solve their classmates problems. It also has discussion board in which all students are required to participate and also read and comment on their classmates thoughts. This is a great way for all students to participate in the class. Canvas also has many features like modulus, calendar and grades to keep them up to date, deadlines for assignments and grading on assignments and professor comments on the assignments. As Hillman states in the article online learning is a great tool and people should appreciate it. Furthermore Zawacki-Richter elaborates on the bright future of online learning and its benefits to all. The author states that online learning is beneficial to both students and professors. It provides flexibility in time, preferable environment and students have option to rewatch the lecture videos again. Students can go at their own pace and go over the material whenever they want and however many times as they want. Students are given a week to submit their assignments for the week but in a traditional class all assignments and either due the same day or two days after. Online learning gives students time to go on their own pace and learn in the way that best fits their learning style. “This means that the future for distance education looks bright and promising. In fact, there has never been a better time to be in the field of open, flexible, distance and online education than now!” (Zawacki-Richter). As the author states online learning future looks bright and rapidly expanding all over the world.Technology has reshaped the face of online learning. Dede explains that emerging technology has brought many new tools of learning whether it is apps, websites, facetime, channels and live teachings. The author further explains that the structure of online classes is very well thought and is the best fit for institutions, professors and students. “This article speculates about how emerging technologies may reshape both face to face and distance education” (Dede). Technology has become so advanced that it does everything that is done in traditional learning whether it is face to face interaction, or interaction with classmates and connection with professor. Everything is possible with technology but distance education causes distributed learning. Dede explains distributed learning as multimedia method of instructional delivery which includes a mix of video conferencing, web-based instruction, face-to-face classroom time, distance learning through television or videos on youtube, or other combinations of electronic and traditional education. Technology has made distance education easier Dede explains that the face of education has changed, online learning is the most convenient way of learning.In conclusion, distance education is the best option for people who do not have time for scheduled meetings for lectures. The infrastructure of online learning is very strong because online education has many strong points such as flexibility, face to face interaction, virtual communication, one to one connection with the professor, moving at your own pace, tools and perks of online learning for everyone. Since 2000 online education has been rapidly growing and still continues to grow. The future of distance education is bright and continues to impress everyone with new inventions that change history. It is intriguing to see technology and education come together and has reshaped the art of learning.
