children’s attachment security in the first year after placement: A
longitudinal study of predictors
children building a relationship attachment with their foster family. would it
affect their behavior? The focus is on how children can be at risk if they are
placed and replace in different homes.
Children have been exposed to their
biological families treating them or harming them I a harsh way. these children
fall in the category of being defenseless and can’t help themselves from those
harming them. They become foster child in the system and up for adoption, and
building relationships with foster caregivers. Many times, these children are
successful and build a secure relationship with their caregivers (Lang, 2015).
The study focuses on foster children’s
attachment formation and its factors of influence during the first year in
foster placement (Lang, 2015)
The study intended
to explore attachment formation to surrogate caregivers during the first year
in foster placement. Various factors which might influence this process are
considered in predicting attachment security longitudinally (Lang, 2015).
of this study where many 55 foster children, the children placed from ages 9 months
to 6 years old. The primary caregivers were mostly women and had a professional
career. The children were placed in 5 different homes before being in a stable
They assessed an
attachment Q-sort, it simply was a home observation. See chart on table 1.
After the home observation they sorted them in to nine piles. As for the
results the score was measured from -1.0 to +1.0.
The foster caregiver
and the foster child were seen twice within a short time being together. one of
visit was from home and the other at the laboratory. the researchers videotaped
the home visit to use if needed in the future. They evaluated the children to
see what they would do if the parent was to leave and what they would do if
they were to stay and paly with them.
On the first table the development of attachment
the standard of the AQS security scores (Lang, 2015) the chart was split in different
waves that they texted the children in, they noticed that in wave 1 to 2 there
was an increase from wave 2 to 3. In wave 1 there showed a higher attachment security,
with children that older and girls. The children show to have an up scale of
attachment security within the beginning of there years (Lang, 2015).and they
showed an improved development in a short time of being placed.
