Jesus was not only the savior of humanity and the Son Of God, he did many things during his life to create a large following of Christianity. The most amazing things Jesus did in his life were the miracles he performed for people. Jesus mainly performed three types of miracles, physical healings, exorcisms, nature miracles, and rising from the dead. Jesus’ miracles saved people from things in life they are struggling with or just not able to handle, he performed these miracles to point to the coming of the kingdom of God in Christ’s very life. The physical healing miracles demonstrated Jesus’ power over sin and reveals that the coming of God’s kingdom brings happiness and wholeness. Jesus performed this type of miracle many times some of the most well known events are in Luke 7: 12. In Luke 7: 12 Jesus healed a leper who came up to him very faithfully and said “Lord if you wish, you can make me clean.” In this miracle Jesus stretched out his hand and touched the leper and he was cured from the disease. Another time in Luke 18:38-41 there was a blind man who shouted at Jesus “Jesus son of David have pity on me!” Jesus responded saying “what do you want me to do for you?” the blind man then replied saying “Lord, please let me see.” Jesus healed the man giving him the ability to see and the man praised Jesus immediately. This type of miracles accomplishes helping people who have disabilities, diseases, or major illnesses, if they have faith in Jesus he can heal them. This type of miracle is awesome because not every is born perfectly, or they could get a fatal disease and Jesus can heal them if they have faith. (Michael Pennock, 95) The next type of miracles is called an Exorcism which is the expulsion of evil spirits from a person. Jesus used these to establish his power over Satan and the demons who war against God’s and tempt human to do wrong things. One exorcism is recorded in Luke 4: 31-37 which takes place in a synagogue in Capernaum. After Jesus successfully drived a demon out of someone he said “What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits and the come out.” In Luke 8:26-39 when Jesus encountered the Gerasene demoniac he was recognized as the Son of God. The demons feared him and were sent into a herd of pigs who rushed down a steep cliff and were drowned in the sea. Jesus then said the man “Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.” This miracle saved people who had been overtaken by the devil and controlled by evil spirits. This miracles is really important because sometimes the devil tempts us to do bad things or event tempts us enough to be controlled by demonic spirit. (Michael Pennock, 96) Nature Miracles support Jesus’ power over the forces of nature since all of creation came through him. In John 1:1 3 it is said “In the beginning was the word, and the word was God all things came to ne through him, and without him nothing came to be.” This means that Jesus would have full control over the nature and be able to manipulate or change it anyway he pleases. The first miracles was Jesus’ calming of the storm at sea in Luke 8:22-25. Since he had full control over creation when his disciples asked him, “Who then is this, who commands event the wind and the sea, and they obey him?” Jesus showed them his power by calming down the storm which would seem like an impossible task to anyone. Another miracles performed was the multiplication of the loaves and fishes in Luke 9:10-17. This is the most popular nature Miracle where Jesus fed chose people in the desert which reminds church leaders to feed God’s people with the gospel and the Holy Eucharist. (Michael Pennock, 96) The final type of miracle the raisins from the dead which shows that he has mastery over life and death. There is three raisings from the dead recorded in the Gospels. The first miracle is in John 11: 1-44 where Jesus raised his friend Lazarus from the dead. He also raised the synagogue leader’s daughter and the son of the wino of Nain in Luke which is found in Luke 7: 11-17. During the son of Nain it is said “he was moved to pity for her” this meant that Jesus felt bad for the mother because her dead son was her only support in life. Jesus was so powerful he had people scared people were scared at him at some points, they eventually to glorify him. People began to say “A great prophet has arisen in our midst God has visited his people.” These miracles performed were foreshadowing of Jesus rising from the dead three days after being crucified. This miracle is the most interesting because being able to bring people back from the dead seems like the least possible miracle Jesus has performed. This is really interesting how they said his previous miracles were foreshadowing to his resurrection. (Michael Pennock, 96-97) In conclusion all the miracles Jesus was able to perform in his life on earth are amazing and so interesting. There are so many interesting points they made about his miracles, like him resurrecting a few people during his life is like how he would resurrect after three days. Or how he had full control of nature because since he is a human version of God he created the earth. He perform these miracles to help people and show how he is the most powerful person ever. Jesus; abilities to save humans from evil spirits, death, sickness, and much more is the most important thing a living human has ever done.
