India is a magnificent and fascinating country
with a very long and interesting history. The earliest evidence of its
civilization comes back to about 4,500 years. During that time, Indians
invented many useful things. Based on their discoveries they have made a great
contributions in the development of mathematics, astronomy and medicine. In
this work will be discussed what kind of inventions, discoveries were made by
Indians at that times, how it influenced on the already existing concepts of
astronomy, mathematics, medicine and technology. Moreover, there also will be
discussed great people that helped to open, discovered and proved new notions
in those areas that were mentioned earlier. Main purpose of this work is to
clearly described the big contributions in each area step by step.

Mathematics represents a very high level of
abstraction attained by human brain. In ancient India, roots to mathematics can
be traced to Vedic literature, which are around 4000 years old. Between 1000 BC
and 1000 AD, a number of mathematical treatises were authored in India. Important contributions were made by scholars like
Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, and Bhaskara II.  In ancient India, mathematics was known by the
general name Ganita, which included arithmetic, geometry, algebra, astronomy
and astrology. In the field of mathematics ancient Indians made great distinct
contributions such as the decimal system and the use of zero.

The zero was known to
the ancient Indians and most probably the knowledge of it spread from India to
other cultures. Zero is a strange number and one of the greatest paradoxes of
human thought. It means both everything and nothing. It is both a number and
the numerical digit used to represent that numbers in numerals. It fulfils a
central role in mathematics as the additive identity of the integers, real
numbers and many other algebraic structures. The concept of zero as a number
