I chose engineering
as my major because in my family my father was an engineer and my sister is also
doing engineering mn1 and I was very impressed by my fathers
job as it is a profession
which is respected a lot in whole worldmn2 . However, I want to choose my career
and do job in the field which is a white collar job and I am also very
impressed by my sister’s studies which excites me mn3 as she get many field projects, which
I believe is of more practical work than theoretical. I believe it is ultimate
field for challenges and creativity. I am very curious about how things work
and want to build great structures, highways, and bridges around the world. That’s
why I chose civil engineering as my major. I am mostly influenced by Burj
Khalifa, Millau Viaduct, Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road, Great Ocean Road and
Overseas Highway. I am so much impressed by the creativity of these structures which excites
me mn4 and I want to build some wonders in
my life like these engineers did. However, engineers work in teams and
they later develop into true leaders and
this is knowledge mn5 which I can apply to any area of my life. As an engineer I
will rank amongst the highest paid professions in the world, even as a
graduate. mn6 My unique, universal skill set will enable me to work in
almost any country in the world (and beyond!). Not many careers offer this sort
of opportunity to gain experience and explore new cultures and lifestyles. I
will be working in multinational companies in which they often travelmn7  overseas
for conferences and to visit or inspect company facilities, adding variety to
their daily routines. Engineers help sustain nation’s international
competitiveness, maintain their standard of living, ensure a strong national
security, and protect public safety. As a member of such mn8 a respected profession, I will receive a high
amount of prestige. I also want to work for the benefit of people as many
highways have saved a lot of time of people and similarly have prevented many
accidents and I want to benefit people where there is a lot of traffic by
building some underground roads and a safe footpaths for people specially this
problem is mostly in asian countries. It will feel really very wonderful when I
will be actually contributing something to the society. Words cannot describe
the feeling when someone looks at a newly constructed building or bridge and
says “I built that’. As an engineer, I will work in a professional environment
in which I will be treated with respect, have a certain amount of freedom in
choosing my work, and have the opportunity to learn and grow through both
on-the-job training and formal training. Mainly these are the reasons behind me
choosing engineering as my major but my biggest motivation was my family as
they always wanted me to become an engineer and have as much respect my dad had
and my mother have always influenced me to become an engineer by telling me
about engineers lifestyle and respect they receive. She also motivated me to take
sciences in my 11th grade and helped in my studies in high school so
that I can score good marks in my 12th grade so I can get admission
in a good university and can become a professional engineer.
