The theorist I chose was Florence Nightingale. She came up with Environmental Theory. This theory is based on the premise of environment. Her theory was based on the premise that the environment
of a patient should help the patient.
She includes in her theory the nurse as well as the environment. While she was serving in the Crimean War, she
noticed how the environment and the recovery of the patients were
connected. That is when she came up with
the theory. She broke the theory down
into four main components: environment, person, health and nursing (Alligood,
The room that I would design would have floor to ceiling
windows to allow in as much natural light as possible. These windows would be facing a garden or
some sort of greenery. The bed would face
this window and the window would have shades that could be drawn for less light
and privacy for examinations.
Proposal 1 fits with Nightingale’s theory and is the one I
would choose. Since the proposed room
would allow the windows to open to provide the patient with fresh air and
sunshine, that goes with Nightingale’s theory that the environment should aid
in the patients physical and psychological wellbeing.
